Compressor Options
Engine Driven
Recommended for most applications. Belt-driven from the vehicle engine for reliable, high-capacity cooling.
Hydraulic Drive
Suitable for specialised machinery where hydraulic power is available and preferred.
DC Electric
Application specific. Suitable where engine or hydraulic drive is not available.
Installation Considerations
Roof Space
Ensure there is sufficient flat roof area to mount the R6101 unit. Check dimensions against your vehicle roof layout before ordering.
Roof Strength
The roof must be capable of supporting the weight of the unit (approx. 18.1kg / 40lbs) plus any additional stress from vibration and vehicle movement.
ROPS/FOPS
If your vehicle has a ROPS or FOPS structure, ensure the rooftop unit does not compromise the structural integrity or certification of the safety frame.
Roof Opening
A roof opening must be cut to allow the ceiling plenum to pass through into the cab interior. Use the included roof template for accurate cutting.
Drainage
Ensure adequate drainage is considered to prevent condensate buildup inside the cab or roof space.
Hose Routing
Plan hose routing from the rooftop unit to the compressor before installation to avoid restrictions or sharp bends.
Electrical Voltage
Confirm the vehicle electrical system matches the required voltage – 12V or 24V. Do not mix voltages.
Vehicle Height
Adding a rooftop unit will increase the overall height of your vehicle. Check clearance requirements for garages, underpasses and loading docks.
Compressor Mounting
A suitable mounting bracket and drive system must be selected to match the vehicle engine and compressor type.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does the R6101 include a compressor?
No. The R6101 includes the rooftop evaporator/condenser assembly and related components, but a suitable refrigeration compressor system is still required.
Can I simply connect 12V or 24V power and have air conditioning?
No. The electrical system powers the fans and controls only. A suitable refrigeration compressor system is still required. The R6101 is not a self-contained electric air conditioner.
What voltage options are available?
R6101 units are available in 12V and 24V configurations, subject to availability.
What roof opening is required?
The approximate roof cut-out is 257 mm x 322 mm. Installers should always confirm against the latest supplied manufacturer template before cutting.
Can it be fitted to my machine?
The R6101 can be adapted to many enclosed cab applications, provided there is sufficient roof space, suitable structure and a suitable compressor drive arrangement. Final suitability must be assessed by the purchaser and/or installer.
Is it suitable for forklifts?
Yes, the R6101 has been used on many enclosed forklift cab applications where roof space and installation requirements allow.
Is it suitable for trucks?
Yes, it may suit certain truck and specialist vehicle applications depending on roof space, cabin size and compressor options.
Is it suitable for large buses or very large cabins?
One unit may not be suitable for very large cabins or high heat-load applications. Larger or multiple-system solutions may be required.
Can Autofrost install it?
Installation may be available at Autofrost’s Sydney workshop by appointment. However, many customers purchase the unit and arrange installation through their own local technician or workshop.
Can Autofrost install it interstate?
Autofrost is based in Milperra, NSW. We do not generally offer onsite interstate installation. Units can be supplied Australia-wide, with installation arranged by the purchaser.
What compressor should be used?
Compressor selection is application-specific. Engine-driven compressors are often preferred where practical, but hydraulic or DC electric compressor options may be considered depending on the application.
What hose sizes are generally used?
Typical hose sizing is #8 for discharge and #10 for suction, however final hose sizing and routing are installation-specific.
How much refrigerant does it take?
Final refrigerant charge depends on compressor type, hose length and overall system configuration. It should be determined by the licensed technician completing the installation.
Can Autofrost supply other components?
Yes. Autofrost can supply many supporting components including compressors, hoses, fittings, driers, switches and other air-conditioning parts.
Can the unit be shipped Australia-wide?
Yes. Freight can be quoted once the destination is known. Business address delivery is preferred. Customer collection or customer-arranged freight may also be available.
Is pricing listed online?
Pricing is handled by RFQ due to varying customer types, voltage requirements, freight costs and application-specific component requirements.
